ANHE Statement on House Passage of the BLM Methane CRA

Washington, DC— Statement from Katie Huffling, MS, RN, CNM, Executive Director of the Alliance of Nurses for healthy Environments:

‘We are deeply disappointed that Congress is putting industry interests before the health of the American people. The BLM methane rule not only helps to mitigate climate change and its associated health risks by limiting emissions of methane — a potent greenhouse gas — but it also limits emissions of toxic and carcinogenic air pollutants, benefiting public health in communities across the country. Venting, flaring and leaking natural gas at oil and gas facilities, pollutes the air our children breathe and causes rates of asthma attacks in children to increase.’
