Defending the EPA – How Nurses Can Take Action and Make a Difference

The ANHE Policy-Advocacy Work Group hosted a webinar last week discussing efforts to roll-back health protective regulations – such as the Clean Water Act, the Methane Rule, the Clean Power Plan and the Ozone Rule, as well as EPA budget cuts and how these effect the Agency’s ability to protect public health. The webinar reviews all the ways in which nurses can take action to ensure the EPA is able to fulfill it’s mission of protecting human health and the environment. Watch to the webinar here. The webinar slides are posted below.

With Congress on recess, nurses have the opportunity to meet with their representatives in their home states to discuss how these environmental rollbacks impact human health. Other opportunities for action include writing letters to the editor (LTEs) or submitting opinion editorials (op-ed) to your local newspaper. ANHE has included writing samples of LTEs and op-eds that can be tailored for your state or nursing practice. Factsheets are also provided that can be used for your reference or to share with policymakers. The voices of nurses is even more important right now to support the essential efforts of the EPA.
