EPA Nominee Pruitt Admits Childhood Asthma Ignorance

Washington, DC (January 18, 2017) – Katie Huffling, a nurse and Executive Director of the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, released the following statement on Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt’s confirmation hearing at the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works:

“It is essential the Environmental Protection Agency administrator has a basic understanding of the negative health impacts from pollution and environmental degradation. During his confirmation hearing, however, Scott Pruitt admitted he does not know the childhood asthma rates in his own state, which are strongly linked to pollution and climate change. His troubling lack of knowledge on this issue indicates that we cannot trust him to protect our kids’ health.”
