Our suggestions to best use the eTextbook is as follows:
1. Look at the Table of Contents to see the range of information available
2. Begin by reading Why Nursing and Environmental Health. The page guides you to "begin here" and to follow pages that are also outlined on the left side of the page. Use any hyperlinks (click on them in blue) to visit other governmental and non-governmental resources. These links will open up in a new window or tab.
3. See the Scope and Standards of Practice and Competencies section to see national guidelines for environmental health in nursing practice.
4. We offer content in the core chapters: Vulnerable Populations, Environmental Health Sciences, Advocacy, and Green Nursing. These core chapters can be read sequentially or by selecting topics of interest to you. If you are particularly interested in a specific topic, for example, neurodevelopmental issues in children, then you might wish to go directly to that section of the Virtual Textbook.
5. Each chapter includes teaching strategies that enhance learning. Educators can use the competencies, content and teaching strategies to create entire courses or modules within a course. We link the competencies, relevant content and teaching strategies in our Recommendations for Integration of Environmental Health into the BSN Curriculum section of the eTextbook.
