SUMMARY:ANHE Policy and Advocacy Forum
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday May 1 for “Ports\, Heavy Duty Vehicles and Community Health.” While heavy duty vehicles contribute to air pollution\, less attention is often given to the ports where these vehicles originate. Join ANHE for a discussion about ports\, emissions and health outcomes\, especially as they relate to the potential policies and actions of the new administration. \nREGISTER TODAY: https://zurl.co/YbFDu or use the link in our bio \nWe will be joined by speaker Regina Hsu who is a senior attorney in Earthjustice’s California Regional Office\, where she works on the Right to Zero campaign. Regina primarily works to accelerate transportation electrification in California and nationwide. Much of her work centers on electrifying the goods movement industry and reducing pollution at the San Pedro Bay Ports\, the largest port complex in the United States and single largest stationary source of pollution in the Los Angeles region.

DESCRIPTION:February 23rd \, 2023 \n \nSpeaker: Jeannie Rodriguez\, PhD\, RN\, APRN\, Assistant Professor\nAssistant Director\, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Program\, Project Lead\, SEEK Study\, Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing\, Atlanta\, Georgia \nTitle: The Metabolome of Passive ENDS Exposure in Kids (The M-PEEK Study) \nSummary: Jeannie Rodriguez (presenting)\, Irene Yang\, Donghai Liang\, Rachel Tchen\, and Bayan Hawsawi assessed the feasibility of non-invasive biomatrices to detect secondhand e-cigarette vapor exposure in children and describe parental perceptions of vaping. Overall\, sample-specific\, and feature-specific correlations were strong to moderate between blood and the non-invasive biomatrices. Fourteen significant features were annotated\, noting metabolites directly reflective of e-cigarette vapor exposure and metabolites of dopamine and oxidative stress\, likely representing downstream effects of exposure. Most parents began vaping to stop smoking and described vaping as a minor health hazard or not a hazard. Parent vapers described\nthe “power of addiction”\, “the appeal of vaping”\, and a “cycle of judgement”. \nRegister in advance for this meeting:

SUMMARY:ANHE Research Forum Monthly Call - April 2022
DESCRIPTION:Kim Larson\, RN\, PhD\, MPH\, FNAP is a professor at East Carolina University College of Nursing in Greenville\, North Carolina \nTitle: Safe Drinking Water Study in Guatemala \nContaminated drinking water contributes to child mortality. A quasi-experimental study was conducted in Guatemala to examine a community engagement (CE) strategy\, a monetary donation for a water filter. Water filters were distributed to households in four villages; three villages (n = 38) participated in the CE strategy (intervention) and one village (n = 56) did not (control). One-year later we surveyed study households on family health and water filter use. Intervention households had almost five times higher odds (OR = 4.7\, p = 0.022) of having a working water filter. Interventions that incorporate ownership might sustain safe drinking water initiatives. \nRegister in advance for this month’s webinar! 1 Nursing Continuing Education credit will be awarded to those who complete the evaluation and earn 80% or above on the webinar post-test.\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0pdOuhqDkqHtAqY6rCEyFxILLkxs5OYnZ-

SUMMARY:Research Working Group Monthly Call - September 2021
DESCRIPTION:Research Working Group: September 23rd at 3pm ET/12pm PST on Zoom \n \nGibran C. Mancus\, PhD\, RN is an Assistant Professor\nat The University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing in Tuscaloosa. \nTitle: Exploring greenspace\, leisure time physical activity and mental health in the southeastern United States. \nThere is a growing body of evidence that vegetation where people live is associated with positive mental health. Little is known about the effect these relationships in southern states with more rural population. This study explored the complex relationships between poor mental health\, leisure time physical activity and enhanced vegetation index aggregated at the census tract in Alabama. We found those living with more greenness were less likely to have excessive poor mental health days and less likely to not engage in leisure time physical activity.
