Her research trajectory has focused on multi-level environmental determinants of health. This research includes special focused areas on respiratory and sense organs\, next generation telehealth development\, and emergency care. Dr. Castner’s accolades include recognition as a Fellow in the Academy of Emergency Nursing and American Academy of Nursing for unique and enduring contributions to the specialty by pioneering the integration of environmental health research\, emergency nursing\, and data science mathematical modeling expertise. Dr. Castner is a board certified Asthma Educator (AE-C) and emergency nurse (CEN). Dr. Castner earned her PhD in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\, Master’s in Public Health Nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia\, and Bachelor’s in Nursing from Marquette University. Dr. Castner has led organizational improvement initiatives to overcome barriers for women in science\, advance diversity and inclusion\, and enhance cultural competence for the combat veteran family.

DESCRIPTION:Topic: Practice Forum – June 2021 Call \nDr. Azita Amiri will discuss her research on pill crushing as a cause of indoor air pollution with potential to cause harm to nurses. \nTime: Jun 15\, 2021 02:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/87398514716 \n \nDr. Azita Amiri\, Ph.D.\, RN is an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville\, College of Nursing\, and a Bloomberg Fellow at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Amiri has been a nurse/midwife for over 20 years and has worked as a midwife for over a decade in developing countries in collaboration with the World Health Organization. In addition to teaching and guiding nursing students at the college of nursing\, she leads the Environmental Justice Youth advocate Training (EJYAT) program. She works with youth in disadvantaged communities in Alabama and trains them as community leaders. Her goal is to train youth as community advocates and raise awareness about environmental justice and health disparities. Dr. Amiri is an advocate for environmental justice communities in Alabama. She has been working with Uniontown\, Alabama’s community organization\, since 2016. Dr. Amiri is a nurse researcher with an interest in indoor air\, environmental health\, and environmental justice. She measures indoor air quality by simulating residential and occupational settings in her lab and studies the common indoor air exposures\, their concentrations and sources\, and their impact on pregnancy outcomes\, child health\, and the well-being of the elderly.  She serves as the board member of the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments.
