SUMMARY:Creative Climate Advocacy Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Health Care Without Harm is hosting an upcoming webinar titled Creative Climate Advocacy on 3/12\, 12 EST.   You can register at the following link: https://academy.practicegreenhealth.org/products/creative-climate-advocacy\n\n\n\nSession Description\n\nHealth professionals have a vital role to play at this critical time by calling attention to the many ways climate change impacts health. In this webinar\, you will hear from three clinicians about the innovative ways they are mobilizing health care colleagues\, drawing attention to the health impacts of climate change\, and redefining health professional climate advocacy in the era of the climate crisis. \nIncreasingly\, health professionals are concerned about the climate crisis and are motivated to find ways to take effective action. As trusted messengers they have many opportunities to leverage their influence and expertise to advocate for climate policy solutions to protect health. However\, given the urgency of the climate crisis\, along with inadequate governmental action\, health professionals are turning to nontraditional forms of advocacy\, including civil disobedience\, to demand immediate solutions to protect our future. \n\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nWebinar participants will learn about innovative ways health professionals are taking action\, including: \n• Demonstrating at Fire Drill Fridays\n• Delivering inspirational “climate train talks”\n• Forming nonviolent\, clinician climate action groups with support from the Climate Disobedience Center\n\n\n\n\n• Calling on their institutions to divest from fossil fuels

SUMMARY:NorCal Symposium on Climate and Pandemic Resilience in Health Care
DESCRIPTION:Join med Students from Stanford and University of California San Francisco on September 25th from 9am-5pm EST for a day-long conference on climate change.  \nThe symposium will educate and empower health care professionals to enact sustainable healthcare practices at their institutions.  The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the vulnerabilities of health care systems in the US to adapt and mobilize resources needed to provide timely\, appropriate\, and equitable care. Climate change adds stressors such as wildfires\, super storms\, and heat waves that further test our capacity. It is critical that we build resilient health care systems\, able to respond effectively in times of crisis.\n \nThrough interdisciplinary sessions with health care workers\, sustainability officers\, and advocates for sustainable solutions\, we will build a community of invested individuals and organizations to create resilient and equitable health care systems. \nREGISTER HERE!

SUMMARY:Clean Water Act 48th Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:Access to clean water is a fundamental right that every American should be afforded and our leaders have a moral obligation to protect and uphold this right.  \nOn Sunday\, October 18th we will celebrate the 48th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. This important legislation has been instrumental in requiring set standards for clean water in order to protect it for uses such as drinking\, fishing\, and much more. It makes it clear that pollution discharges must be regulated in order to protect our lakes\, rivers\, and streams from being polluted and unsafe. The Clean Water Act has ensured the safety of clean water for the public health\, recreational activities\, and wildlife and has kept billions of pounds of pollutants out of our waterways.  \nAs we celebrate 48 years of progress\, we recognize now more than ever our fundamental rights are being challenged and low-income communities and communities of color will pay the brunt of it if we don’t continue our fight against environmental rollbacks. \nWe’d greatly appreciate your engagement over social media and in participating and sharing Clean Water for All’s virtual townhall on Tuesday\, October 20th at 5pm eastern. Here is the social media toolkit and more details about plans for the week. \nPlease use the social media guidance attached to promote the virtual townhall on Tuesday\, and plug into the themed days of action by posting on your channels all week.
