SUMMARY:On Capitol Hill\, July 21: Join 100 Health Professionals in Support of Joe Biden's 100% Clean Energy Standard
DESCRIPTION:Are you a health professional concerned about the climate crisis and its impacts on health and the environment? If so\, please RSVP to join 100 other health professionals in person on July 21st in Washington\, DC. We’ll gather outdoors near the Capitol at Noon in support of 100% clean electricity by 2035 as part of the American Jobs Plan. \nInvesting in 100% clean energy by 2035 dramatically reduces air pollution\, improves public health\, and advances environmental justice. Researchers estimate that exposure to pollution\, especially fine particulate matter\, is responsible for more than 100\,000 premature deaths each year. A clean energy standard would help avoid more than $1.7 trillion in health and environmental costs\, including 93\,000 avoided premature deaths\, through 2050. In addition\, there will be immediate reductions in the risk of cancers\, respiratory disease\, heart disease and stroke. \nThe burning of fossil fuels causes a wide range of negative impacts on human health and disproportionately burdens communities of color. Equity and justice must be at the core of climate investments. The American Jobs Plan targets 40 percent of the benefits of climate and clean infrastructure investments to disproportionately impacted communities\, and invests in rural communities and workers who may lose jobs in the fossil fuel industry due to the transition to clean energy. \nThe time to act is now. On July 21st we will gather on the National Mall in the shadow of the Capitol Building to show our support for 100% clean electricity and the American Jobs Plan. \nCo-sponsors of this event include Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments\, Medical Students for a Sustainable Future\, Physicians for Social Responsibility and CCAN Action Fund. \nIf you aren’t able to make it in-person\, you can show your support for a transition to 100% clean energy by adding your name to this petition letter here.

SUMMARY:ANHE Research Forum Monthly Call - July
DESCRIPTION:ANHE’s Research Forum meets on the forth Thursday of the month at 3pm ET/12pm PST on Zoom \nThis month\, Daniel Jackson Smith\, PhD\, RN\, CNE will present his work – From Work to the Dialysis Chair: The Impacts of Occupational Exposures on Kidney Health \n \nDaniel Jackson Smith\, PhD\, RN\, CNE is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Future of Nursing Scholar and Clinical Instructor at Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing\, Emory University\, Atlanta\, Georgia. \nOccupational heat exposure and resulting dehydration has been associated with acute kidney dysfunction. There is growing evidence that repeated acute kidney injury at work can lead to the development of chronic kidney disease in the absence of traditional risk factors for developing chronic kidney disease\, such as hypertension and diabetes. This talk will present Daniel’s dissertation research on the current occupational health research on kidney dysfunction in agricultural workers in California and Florida as well as the results of occupational and health history surveys conducted with undocumented immigrants receiving frequent\, emergent-only hemodialysis at Atlanta’s safety net hospital. \nJoin us on Zoom
