SUMMARY:Join ANHE Practice Forum for Rethink Plastic
DESCRIPTION:Plastic pollution is a global crisis affecting the health of the planet and all life on Earth from plankton to humans. Like climate change\, plastic pollution is a result of a dedicated effort by the fossil fuel and petrochemical industries to exploit a natural resource to unnatural consequences. This webinar will explore the health implications of plastics and options for effective change. \nPresented by Speaker\, Sandra R. Curtis\, PhD\nSandra R. Curtis has been a Director for Innovative Projects for the past six years at Plastic Pollution Coalition. Dr. Curtis initiated the organization’s efforts to bring awareness to the health hazards of plastic. \nAfter this free webinar participants will be able to:\n1) Describe the environmental and health impacts of plastic within the context of climate change\, with a specific focus will be on single-use plastic.\n2) Review the health implications of plastic throughout the lifecycle starting with extraction to production\, use\, and disposal. \nThis course (Rethink Plastic) is approved by the California Board of Registered Nurses\, Provider Number CEP17198 for  1 contact hour.

SUMMARY:ANHE Global Nurses Climate Change Committee Monthly Call - September 2021
DESCRIPTION:ANHE Global Nurses Climate Change Committee: September 16th at 5pm ET/2pm PST on Zoom. Lisa Del Buono will join the September call as we explore the relative effectiveness of a variety of policies from electrifying our transportation system to improving energy efficiency and regenerative agriculture using MIT’s EN-ROADS global climate action simulator. At a time when Congress is deciding the best ways to address the climate crisis with equity in mind\, Lisa believes that health professionals should support all the tools in the toolbox\, including a price on carbon designed in ways that would benefit those who have suffered disproportionately from the burning and extraction of fossil fuels. Lisa is a recently retired doc who is one of the State Coordinators for Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL)\, co-leads the CCL Health Action Team\, and is the Executive Director of Michigan Clinicians for Climate Action (MiCCA).

SUMMARY:Research Working Group Monthly Call - September 2021
DESCRIPTION:Research Working Group: September 23rd at 3pm ET/12pm PST on Zoom \n \nGibran C. Mancus\, PhD\, RN is an Assistant Professor\nat The University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing in Tuscaloosa. \nTitle: Exploring greenspace\, leisure time physical activity and mental health in the southeastern United States. \nThere is a growing body of evidence that vegetation where people live is associated with positive mental health. Little is known about the effect these relationships in southern states with more rural population. This study explored the complex relationships between poor mental health\, leisure time physical activity and enhanced vegetation index aggregated at the census tract in Alabama. We found those living with more greenness were less likely to have excessive poor mental health days and less likely to not engage in leisure time physical activity.
