Nurses Fight for Clean Car Standards

The transportation sector is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. In 2015, the sector was responsible for more than a quarter (27%) of total greenhouse gas emissions, just slightly behind the electricity sector (29%). In addition to the sector’s contribution to climate change, […]

The ANHE PFAS Toolkit is here! Nurses and other he The ANHE PFAS Toolkit is here! Nurses and other healthcare providers are likely familiar with hearing the term “PFAS” or “forever chemicals” and that these chemicals can impact human health. There are thousands of PFAS (short for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) chemicals which can be found in a variety of products most people use on a daily basis. However, most healthcare providers do not know where to find information critical to providing evidence-based care when a patient comes in with questions nor how to manage care if an exposure is identified.

The purpose of this toolkit is to provide useful information to guide clinical practice and decision making. Patients, community members or colleagues may present with questions around PFAS exposures, PFAS testing and/or results, health implications, and what actions they can take to reduce exposures. We hope this toolkit will be a valuable resource for providing guidance around these questions.

The City of Atlanta has leased 381 acres of Weelau The City of Atlanta has leased 381 acres of Weelaunee Forest to the Atlanta Police Foundation for a militarized police training facility funded by corporations. At the price of $90 million, it includes a mock city to practice urban warfare, tear gas and explosives testing, dozens of shooting ranges, and a Black Hawk helicopter landing pad. It is located in a majority-Black area, resulting in significant disenfranchisement and continued racism against its residents who have few easily accessible official channels to register their dissent.

The project is supported by the Atlanta Committee for Progress, which is composed of over 40 corporate elites including the CEOs of Coca-Cola, Home Depot and Cox, with an aim to further the surveillance of the population, stifle dissent, and create conditions for gentrification of the city.
