As data center development accelerates in Pennsylv As data center development accelerates in Pennsylvania, ANHE is calling for stronger protections for public health.

Following Gov. Josh Shapiro’s August 18 executive order establishing GRID standards for proposed data centers, ANHE is urging state lawmakers to advance legislation that requires strict oversight of energy demand, binding protections for ratepayers, and accountability for developers.

Data centers can place significant new demands on the electric grid, increasing reliance on fossil fuel power generation and worsening air pollution that disproportionately harms people living with asthma, heart disease, cancer, and other chronic conditions.

ANHE is calling for clean energy investment and enforceable protections for the health and safety of Pennsylvanians living near these facilities.

As Paloma shared: "For the public's health, the lesson is clear. Prevention is far better than treatment....By removing PFAS from firefighting foam, this law helps stop contamination at the source...for stronger protections for firefighters, nearby residents, and future generations. I commend the collaborative efforts for taking this lesson to heart."
