Paraquat is so toxic that even a small amount can cause irreversible harm, and exposure has been linked to Parkinson’s disease and other serious health risks. Yet meaningful federal action remains years away.

Vermont recently became the first state to ban paraquat, showing how state-level action can protect communities and build momentum for broader change. A major victory for clean air and public health: A federal court has upheld the strengthened national standard for soot pollution.

ANHE was proud to join health and environmental partners in defending this lifesaving standard, bringing nurses’ firsthand experience to the courtroom. Nurses see every day how soot pollution worsens asthma, COPD, heart disease, preterm birth, and other serious health conditions.

Now, EPA must fully implement the standard so communities can realize its life-saving health benefits.

The EPA recently proposed to rollback PFAS drinking water protections which were finalized in 2024. These rules offer strong drinking water protections to millions drinking PFAS contaminated water throughout the country.

On July 7th, many ANHE nurses from across the country raised their voices opposing these rollbacks!
