Title: What happens inside the mouths of vapers?
Dr. Irene Yang is an assistant professor at Emory University’s School of Nursing. She studies the oral microbiome and inflammation as an explanatory mechanism for the oral-systemic connection. Among pregnant women, she investigates the role of the oral microbiome and inflammation in preterm birth. Among older adults, she explores the contribution of oral health, the oral microbiome, and inflammation to cognitive decline, and finally she studies the impact of e-cigarette use on oral health, the oral microbiome, and inflammatory pathways. Dr. Yang’s research has been shaped by her decade of clinical experience as a maternal/newborn nurse.
