Disaster Deja Vu story map was launched earlier th

Disaster Deja Vu story map was launched earlier this month by Environmental Justice Health Alliance for Chemical Policy Reform (EJHA), T.E.J.A.S., and Coming Clean. The story map illustrates the real-world impacts of gutting regulations for the nation’s most hazardous chemical facilities, as recently proposed by the Trump Administration’s EPA. Outlining six Texas facilities with recent histories of back-to-back chemical incidents, it exemplifies the burdens that EPA's proposed rollbacks would place on communities and workers if finalized. EPA is accepting comments through April 10th.

“This legislation will help impacted communities and innocent landowners who are forced to deal with PFAS contamination which they didn’t cause and don’t have the resources to clean up,” said Save Our Water, an advocacy group made up of residents of PFAS-affected communities, noting “[We] will continue to push forward to achieve a meaningful groundwater standard for PFAS and look toward using the bipartisan approach taken with this legislation as a model for future PFAS legislation.”

Hair products marketed to Black and brown women shouldn’t contain chemicals linked to cancer.

But a new Toxic-Free Future analysis of more than 550 products sold at @sallybeauty found chemicals linked to #cancer and other serious health harms in products marketed for textured hair.

📊 More than one in six of the hair products reviewed (17%) contained chemicals that release formaldehyde and/or contained certain siloxanes.

Research shows women of color are disproportionately impacted by the toxic ingredients found in many personal care products.

Washington state will restrict all formaldehyde releasers starting in 2027, and the EU has already restricted certain siloxanes. But customers shouldn’t have to wait for regulations to be protected.

On March 13th, EPA announced a proposed rule to roll back public health regulations adopted in 2024 for commercial sterilizer facilities that use ethylene oxide (EtO) to sterilize medical equipment and spices. Ethylene oxide, one of the most toxic air pollutants EPA regulates, is a highly carcinogenic flammable gas capable of damaging DNA even in small doses. Welcome to ANHE's new New York Nurse Advocacy Coordinator: Laurie Laugeman!

Laurie Laugeman, RN, BSN, HNBBC, HWNCBC has broad nursing experience in acute care, hospice,
geriatrics, and home care. Laurie’s work now centers on planetary health, climate education, advocacy,
and sustainable healthcare practices. She advances environmental health through leadership in the
American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) Planetary Health Task Force, active engagement with
ANHE Northeast Forum, ANANY’s Climate & Health Special Interest Group, and her role as the New York Nurse Advocacy Coordinator with ANHE. Her passion for holistic wellbeing and environmental
stewardship continues to guide her leadership and advocacy efforts.
