Sharing the big news about Curtis Bay Energy! Curt Sharing the big news about Curtis Bay Energy! Curtis Bay is the nation's largest medical waste incinerator and has just announced they will be closing. This news comes after a long concentrated campaign by The South Baltimore Community Land Trust (SBCLT), a network of community members, including the Land Trust, the Community of Curtis Bay Association, residents from nearby Anne Arundel County and researchers from Johns Hopkins documented the pollution from the Curtis Bay Medical Incinerator.

ANHE became aware of the Curtis Bay incinerator a few years back and encouraged our nurse members to find out if their facility was sending waste to the Baltimore, Maryland site. We continue to encourage nurses and hospital systems to utilize their critical role in moving towards re-use and alternatives to harmful disposal methods!

Nurses know that protecting public health means pr Nurses know that protecting public health means preventing harm before it happens.

ANHE Executive Director Katie Huffling and Milagros Elia, ANHE Program Manager, Climate & Clean Energy Advocacy testified against EPA’s proposal to eliminate greenhouse gas standards for power plants. Nurses are already seeing the health effects of climate change in their patients, including respiratory illness and harm from extreme heat and severe weather.

EPA has a responsibility to protect our health. ANHE urges the agency to withdraw this proposal and maintain strong limits on carbon pollution from power plants. Our communities deserve protections that put their health first.
