Last week, the Center for Global Sustainability (C Last week, the Center for Global Sustainability (CGS) at the University of Maryland released a new report analyzing the economic and public health impacts of rolling back key U.S. federal clean energy policies. The report finds that rollbacks will lead to substantial health and economic damages across the country over the next decade, including an additional 22,800 deaths of Americans, a $1.1 trillion reduction in U.S. GDP, and a $160 billion income loss. While people and local economies in all states are affected, some regions experience a greater impact on health and economic activity due to federal rollbacks. Texas, West Virginia, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, Montana, and Alaska are among the states that experience high levels of negative impact.

This report was released as Congress works to develop and pass a budget reconciliation bill that includes a near-total repeal of the Inflation Reduction Act and as the EPA announced actions that will weaken Biden-era regulations requiring power plants to slash pollutants, including toxic substances such as mercury, lead, nickel, and arsenic.

Children born today will face 6 times more heatwav Children born today will face 6 times more heatwaves than children born 60 years ago. At the same time, we know that the climate crisis is a serious child health crisis, with children being disproportionally affected by health-related risks of climate change.

Save the Children International and The Geneva Learning Foundation have launched a free course to help policymakers, health workers and the interested public protect children from climate health risks. Based on Save the Children’s policy brief "“Our common ambition: Prioritising Children’s Health Amidst the Climate Crisis”, the course connects participants with health professionals from over 80 countries to share practical solutions.

With 2.4 billion children facing climate health risks and a massive funding gap ($11 billion needed vs $150 million received), we need immediate action. This course helps participants understand local climate impacts on children and develop actionable responses through global collaboration.

Insights from a new Health Care Without Harm analy Insights from a new Health Care Without Harm analysis tell a striking story:

🇺🇸 Health facilities in every corner of America and in all types of communities are accessing and want to access energy tax credits

🏥 For every hospital using federal energy tax credits, another wants to

🏗️ Tax credits are being used as a backstop to fund critical health facility energy infrastructure upgrades that would either not happen or continue to be delayed without them

🩺 Healthcare organizations are using these tax credits to meet critical emergency preparedness needs, and reinvesting savings into patient care

But uncertainty around future availability of these credits – and their potential to be cut by Congress – has significantly slowed the pace of new projects

Exciting news from the food systems front! 📰 We Exciting news from the food systems front! 📰 We're proud to be signatories of the Belém Declaration on Plant-rich Diets, a critical call to action for governments worldwide.

This declaration recognises the powerful, multifaceted role of plant-rich diets in tackling the climate crisis, supporting public health, protecting biodiversity, enhancing food security, and even fostering economic benefits. With nearly all countries prioritising agri-food systems in their climate plans, and recent IPCC reports highlighting plant-rich diets as key mitigation mechanisms, the time for change is now. 🌱

The Belém Declaration urges national governments to create and implement ambitious action plans for promoting plant-based foods. This means concrete measures, from production to consumption, supported by national, regional, and city-level initiatives.

We're committed to strengthening these collaborative efforts to accelerate a global transition to more plant-rich diets through National Action Plans in all UN member states.
