Jacob Roberts – Passion and compassion for health and the natural world
Jacob Roberts, RN BN Grad Cert (Emergency) MACN HTNA, Deputy Chair, Australian College of Nursing (ACN) Community of Interest-Climate and Health, Emissions Reduction Policy Chapter member (ACN), is a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Educator within the Tasmania Health Service-based in Hobart (Australia). Jacob’s background includes specializing in Emergency Nursing and Education, and he has practiced as a clinician within Emergency, Mental Health Services and Hyperbaric Nursing. He has held multiple roles with the University of Tasmania (UTAS) as an Undergraduate Student Clinical Facilitator and Academic Tutor/Lab Supervisor. Jacob’s current roles with the ACN comprise around collaborating with nurses across Australia that are engaged with and passionate about climate and environmental impacts on health-sharing resources, ideas and inspiration for members in our shared cause. This includes promoting the role the nursing profession holds in role modelling and leading for sustainable changes and reducing the impacts, waste and emissions of the healthcare industry. Jacob’s organizational role within the Green Health Team Tasmania is currently around how best to assess and improve the climate health literacy of Tasmanian Health professionals and supporting research projects around this. Jacob loves nothing more than being outside in Nature and the stunning Tasmanian Wilderness with his wife and young son.
Beth Schenk, Podcast Host
Elizabeth Schenk, PhD, MHI, RN-BC, FAAN is a healthcare sustainability leader in Missoula, Montana, and assistant research professor in Nursing at Washington State University in Spokane, Washington.
Dr. Schenk leads environmental stewardship across Providence St. Joseph Health, a large health system in seven western states. Dr. Schenk developed the “Nurses Environmental Awareness Tool” which has been used in multiple states and several countries to assess awareness of the environmental impacts of hospital-based healthcare. She led the development of the CHANT: Climate, Health and Nursing Tool. She developed the WE ACT PLEASE framework for environmental stewardship in nursing. She was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing as a Fellow in 2018. Dr. Schenk serves on the national board of the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, and on the boards of Montana Health Professionals for a Healthy Climate and Climate Smart Missoula.
